Men's Ice Hockey 10/11/2021 2:14:18 PM CCHA Players of Week: Oct. 8-9 The CCHA is proud to recognize four student-athletes and its Players of the Week for the games of Oct. 8-9. Bowling Green’s Gabriel Chicoine (Defenseman) & Austen Swankler (Rookie) and Michigan Tech’s Alec Broetzman (Forward) & Blake Pietila (Goaltender) took home this week’s honors.  CCHA Forward of the Week: Alec Broetzman, Sr., Michigan Tech (Hudson, Wisc.) Michigan Tech senior forward Alec Broetzman helped lead Michigan Tech to a non-conference road sweep at No. 13 Wisconsin. He had a CCHA-high five points on the weekend with two goals and three assists. Broetzman notched a goal each night, including the game-winner in the first period on Saturday.  CCHA Defenseman of the Week: Gabriel Chicoine, Sr., Bowling Green (St. Dominique, Que.) Bowling Green senior defenseman Gabriel Chicoine tallied three assists in the Falcons two games against RPI, which was tied for second among CCHA defensemen. Chicoine assisted on both of the Falcons' goals in the season opener, including the game-tying score in the third period. The senior also assisted on BGSU's first goal on Saturday, helping the Falcons to a 3-2 overtime victory over RPI. Chicoine's +/- of plus-3 is the highest on BGSU and his point total of 3 is tied for the team lead.  CCHA Goalie of the Week: Blake Pietila, Jr., Michigan Tech (Howell, Mich.) Michigan Tech junior goaltender Blake Pietila backstopped the Huskies to a non-conference sweep at No. 13 Wisconsin. He recorded 38 saves Friday in a 5-2 win and 21 saves Saturday in a 5-1 victory. Pietila tallied his 15th and 16th career wins this weekend. His 1.50 goals-against average and .952 save percentage led the CCHA and helped the Huskies go 5-for-5 on the penalty kill.  CCHA Rookie if the Week: Austen Swankler, Fr., Bowling Green (North Hunitngdon, Penn.) Freshman forward Austen Swankler tallied two assists for Bowling Green, both on goals by Nathan Burke. Swankler assisted on Burke's opening period score against RPI on Friday, marking his first collegiate point. The duo connected again on Saturday, with Swankler assisting on Burke's first period goal that helped the Falcons defeat RPI in overtime, 3-2.  Â
