CCHA Players of Week: Oct. 15-16

The CCHA is proud to recognize four student-athletes and its Players of the Week for the games of Oct. 15-16. Bemidji State’s Tyler Kirkup (Forward), Lake Superior State’s Jacob Nordqvist (Defenseman) & Dawson Tritt (Rookie) and Northern Michigan’s Charlie Glockner (Goaltender).
 


 CCHA Forward of the Week: Tyler Kirkup, Sr., Bemidji State (Virden, Man.)

Bemidji State senior forward Tyler Kirkup receives the honor after collecting his fifth multi-point game of his career with a goal and an assist in a 4-3 loss to No. 7 North Dakota Friday before logging a career-best two goals in a 4-3 victory versus the Fighting Hawks to complete the series. He finished the weekend with a BSU-best four points (3g-1a). After failing to record a point in the Beavers' first series of 2021-22, he bounced back with four points in the team's second series to tie for 10th in the league with four points and third in the league with three goals.

 

CCHA Defenseman of the Week: Jacob Nordqvist, Sr., Lake Superior State (Gothenburg, Swe.)

Lake Superior State senior defenseman Jacob Nordqvist led the Lakers to a sweep over St. Thomas this weekend with three points in the home series. All three of Nordqvist's points came in the team's 6-3 win on Saturday night. The Swedish defenseman tallied the primary assist on the game's first goal and followed with an assist on the Lakers second goal of the game, which came on the power play. Nordqvist clinched the Laker win with the final goal in the game, scoring a power play goal in the final minute of play to give LSSU a 6-3 win.

 

CCHA Goaltender of the Week: Charlie Glockner, Fr., Northern Michigan (Minnetonka, MN)

Freshman goaltender Charlie Glockner made his NCAA debut Saturday against #17 Notre Dame in a relief effort in the second period.  He stopped all 19 shots faced in the game against the Irish to give the Wildcats a chance at the comeback. He spent a total of 97:36 minutes between the pipes over the weekend after making his first start against the United States National Team Development Program (USNTDP). He turned aside 41 of 44 shots against the U18’s to lead his team to a 5-3 win Friday. Glockner faced 28 shots in the third period alone Friday, making 25 saves in the period to keep his team on top. He also saved a penalty shot awarded to the NTDP team partway through the third period and was named first star of the game.

 

CCHA Rookie of the Week: Dawson Tritt, Fr., Lake Superior State (Spokane, WA)
 
Laker freshman forward Dawson Tritt recorded a goal and an assist in the Lakers sweep over St. Thomas this weekend. Tritt notched the secondary assist on the empty net goal in Friday's 3-1 win over the Tommies and followed with a highlight reel goal on Saturday night. The goal on Saturday, which was the opening goal of the game, marked Tritt's second collegiate goal and his first on home ice.
