CCHA names first Players of the Week

The CCHA is proud to recognize four student-athletes and its Players of the Week for the games of Oct. 2-3. Ferris State's Blake Evennou (Defenseman) & Bradley Marek (Rookie) and Minnesota State's Nathan Smith (Forward) & Dryden McKay (Goaltender) took home this week’s honors.

CCHA Forward of the Week: Nathan Smith, Jr., Minnesota State (Hudson, Fla.)

Junior forward Nathan Smith racked up five points in two Minnesota State wins at number-one nationally ranked Massachusetts over the weekend. Smith assisted on both goals in Saturday's 2-0 win and then scored twice and assisted on another as the Mavericks rallied from a 3-0 deficit to claim a 6-3 victory over the Minutemen Sunday.

CCHA Defenseman of the Week: Blake Evennou, Jr., Ferris State (Macomb, Mich.)

Ferris State junior defenseman Blake Evennou's game-winning assist on Sunday came when the Miami Redhawks attempted a high-low cross ice one-time feed on a four-on-three power play in overtime. Evennou managed to get a stick on the pass and deflected it forward to Stepan Pokorny who sprinted up the ice for the game-winner. He blocked 3 shots and finished as a plus 1 on the weekend. He finished second among CCHA defensemen in points.

CCHA Goaltender of the Week: Dryden McKay, Sr., Minnesota State (Downers Grove, Ill.)

Minnesota State senior netminder Dryden McKay stopped all 18 shots in the season-opening 2-0 win at #1 Massachusetts Saturday.  The shutout was the 25th of his career and pulls him within one of the NCAA record of 26 by Michigan State's Ryan Miller (1999-02). McKay also backstopped his team to victory Sunday to secure the weekend sweep.

CCHA Rookie of the Week: Bradley Marek, Fr., Ferris State (Big Rapids, Mich.)

In his collegiate debut on the weekend, Big Rapids local Bradley Marek scored what was a go-ahead goal to send the Bulldogs in front of Miami on Sunday (Oct. 3) with 94 seconds remaining on the power play, deflecting Liam MacDougall's power play shot in. Marek's two points and one power play goal lead all CCHA freshmen. Marek had five shots on goal and picked up an assist in his first collegiate action, assisting on Sam Skinner's first collegiate goal. Marek played in nearly all situations and blocked several key shots to keep Miami at bay on Sunday in the victory. He helped pace Ferris State to the second most faceoff wins in the CCHA as Ferris State's top face off man.
