The CCHA is proud to recognize four student-athletes and its Players of the Week for the games of Oct. 29-30. Minnesota State’s Brendan Furry (Forward), Akito Hirose (Defenseman) & Dryden McKay (Goaltender) and Ferris State’s Bradley Marek (Rookie) took home this week’s honors.

CCHA Forward of the Week: Brendan Furry, Jr., Minnesota State (Toledo, Ohio)

Minnesota State junior forward Brendan Furry registered six points in two wins over Northern Michigan last weekend. Had two assists in Friday's 4-2 victory over the visiting Wildcats. Furry posted his first career hat trick when he scored three times and added an assist for a four-point night in Saturday’s 7-0 win. His first goal of the game held up as the game-winning goal as the Mavericks upped their record to 6-2 for the season. Furry also won 21 of 28 face-offs in the CCHA home sweep.

CCHA Defenseman of the Week: Akito Hirose, So., Minnesota State (Calgary, Alta.)

Minnesota State Sophomore defenseman Akito Hirose recorded a four-point weekend and was plus-4 as Minnesota State opened Central Collegiate Hockey Association action with a two-game home sweep over Northern Michigan. Had an assist and was +1 in last Friday's 4-2 victory and a goal and two assists in Saturday's 7-0 win over the Wildcats. Hirose assisted on Brendan Furry's game winning goal Saturday.

CCHA Goaltender of the Week: Dryden McKay, Sr., Minnesota State (Downers Grove, Ill.)

Minnesota State senior netminder Dryden McKay picked up a pair of wins last weekend as Minnesota State opened CCHA action with 4-2 and 7-0 victories over visiting Northern Michigan. Had 16 saves in last Friday's victory and 15 saves for this third shutout of the season Saturday. His shutout Saturday gives him 27 shutouts for his Minnesota State career and establishes a NCAA Division I men's hockey record, breaking a tie with former record-holder Ryan Miller, who had 26 shutouts while playing for Michigan State from 1999-2002. McKay has has 81 career victories and moves into a tie with Steve Carroll (MSU 1977-81) for the MSU's men's hockey career wins record.

CCHA Rookie of the Week: Bradley Marek, Fr., Ferris State (Big Rapids, Mich.)

Big Rapids local Bradley Marek is third amongst all CCHA freshmen in point-scoring, and finished first in freshman goal-scoring in the CCHA this past weekend. Marek's power play goal Saturday gave the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead that would turn into a 4-2 win. He is currently tied for third in team point-scoring and leads the Bulldogs with 18 shots on goal. He has become a key part of the Bulldog unit as a strong penalty killer and one of the top shot-blocking forwards in the CCHA. He is the only freshman in NCAA men's Division I Ice Hockey in the top 50 in total face off wins, winning 17 more this weekend and was above 50 percent for his fourth consecutive weekend.
