CCHA Players of the Week: Nov. 11-13

The CCHA is proud to recognize four student-athletes and its Players of the Week for the games of Nov. 11-13. Bemidji State’s Owen Sillinger (Forward) & Jere Vaisanen (Rookie) and Northern Michigan’s Ben Newhouse (Defenseman) & Rico DiMatteo (Goaltender) took home this week’s honors.

CCHA Forward of the Week: Owen Sillinger, Sr., Bemidji State (Regina, Sask.)

Bemidji State senior forward Owen Sillinger had a hand in five of the Beavers' nine goals in a two-game road CCHA series sweep over Lake Superior State in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. Sillinger had a game-best two goals and two assists in a 5-4 victory Friday. The four-point night came just one short of his career-best. His game-winning goal Friday was his first of the season. His five-point weekend vaulted him into BSU's scoring lead with 12 (4g-8a) to sit 13th in the league, while his eight helpers lead the Beavers and tie him for eighth in the league.

CCHA Defenseman of the Week: Ben Newhouse, Sr., Northern Michigan (Edina, MN)

Northern Michigan senior defenseman Ben Newhouse recorded two points (1G, 1A) in two games, a power-play goal, three shots on net and an impressive nine blocked shots on the weekend. Newhouse now boasts 41 blocked shots in 11 games played for a nation's best. Was a key asset to the Wildcats' perfect penalty kill unit Friday night en route to the victory, while picking up a special teams goal on the man-advantage.

CCHA Goaltender of the Week: Rico DiMatteo, So., Northern Michigan (Brasher Falls, NY)

Northern Michigan sophomore goaltender Rico DiMatteo played a critical role for the Wildcats this weekend recording 60 saves on 66 shots, a 3.00 goals against average (GAA) and a .910 save percentage (SV%). DiMatteo was the difference maker recording an impressive 43 saves to earn the Wildcats an overtime win on the road at rival Michigan Tech Friday.

CCHA Rookie of the Week: Jere Vaisanen, Fr., Bemidji State (Espoo, Finland)

Bemidji State freshman forward Jere Vaisanen logged two goals to lead BSU to a 4-2 victory at Lake Superior State Saturday and helped the Beavers sweep Lakers on the road. He netted his first collegiate game-winning goal Friday, recorded five shots and a plus-two rating on the weekend.
