Men's Ice Hockey 11/23/2021 5:03:38 PM Preview: St. Thomas hosts Penn State There's one game on the docket in the CCHA this Tuesday night, featuring St. Thomas hosting Penn State. The Tommies face the Nittany Lions at the St. Thomas Ice Arena in Mendota Heights, Minn. at 7:07 p.m. CT. Kyler Grundy leads St. Thomas goal scorers with four. Christiano Versich, Luke Manning and Grant Loven have scored three apiece. Trevor Zins, Matthew Jennings and Cameron Recchi have chipped in two each. Those seven players have contributed 19 of the Tommies’ 22 season goals. St.Thomas’ last games against a Big Ten men’s hockey team came during a threeseason stretch from 1963-66 when the Toms went 1-3-1 in games in Madison against the Wisconsin Badgers. In February 1964 they had a tie and 3-2 win; they lost 6-3 in February 1965; and lost two in February 1966, by scores of 5-0 and 12-3. After 56 seasons without ice hockey, Penn State brought back the sport for men in 2012-13 and now is in year 10 competing in D-I. St. Thomas is the first NCAA institution to move all of its athletics teams directly from Division III to D-I in one season.
