Weekend Preview: Nov. 5-6

Four series will take place this weekend across the CCHA. Northern Michigan will host the lone non-conference weekend as the Wildcats host Boston University for a celebration of 30 years since the 1991 NCAA Championship game between the Wildcats and Terriers.
 
Bowling Green will host St. Thomas, No. 2 Minnesota State will travel to Big Rapids and No. 18 Michigan Tech will start conference play against Lake Superior State in Houghton. Bemidji State is the lone team not in action this weekend.

In a series that dates back to the 1992-93 season, Minnesota State stands 29-8-2 in the all-time series vs. Ferris State. Including a pair of wins in the first round of the WCHA tournament last season, the Mavericks went 6-0-0 vs. FSU last year and career a 15-game winning streak vs. the Bulldogs into this weekend.  Minnesota State stands 11-6-1 vs. Ferris State in games played in Big Rapids.

Michigan Tech will play their first CCHA conference games headed into week six of the season. The Huskies last played in the CCHA from 1981-84. Michigan Tech is 50-27-8 all-time against Lake Superior State dating back to 1969. Lake Superior State is 5-4-1 in their last 10 games and were 2-1-1 against the Huskies last season.

This series marks the first meeting ever between the Falcons and Tommies. Entering the weekend, Austen Swankler leads the team in points (seven) and plus-minus (+4). He is also tied with fellow freshman Eric Parker for the team lead in assists (four). The Tommies have played six CCHA games, with four of those being on the road. St. Thomas is in their first year of competition at the Divsion I level, earning a 5-2 win at home over Ferris State for the program's first official Divison I victory.

NMU will host longtime rival Boston University this weekend in their first meeting in Wildcat country since 1988 when NMU topped the Terriers 7-3 in front of a large home crowd. The 2021 weekend series will serve as a celebration of 30 years since the 1991 NCAA Championship game between the Wildcats and Terriers. The Wildcats lead the all-time series with the Terriers, 7-3-2, with the last matchup between the two squads taking place back in Oct. 2019 that saw the 'Cats win by a score of 4-3.
