Men's Ice Hockey 12/6/2021 1:59:32 PM CCHA Players of the Week: Dec. 3-4  The CCHA is proud to recognize four student-athletes and its Players of the Week for the games of Dec. 3-4. Minnesota State's Nathan Smith (Forward), Northern Michigan's Trevor Cosgrove (Defenseman) and Lake Superior State's Ethan Langenegger (Goalie) & Josh Nixon (Rookie) took home this week’s honors.  Follow @CCHAHockey on Instagram  CCHA Forward of the Week: Nathan Smith, Jr., Minnesota State (Hudson, FL) Minnesota State's junior forward Nathan Smith earns the award for the second time this season after registering four points over the course of a home weekend league sweep over Michigan Tech and Balke Pietila who has the CCHA's second best goals against average (2.08) and save percentage (.914). Smith scored an overtime game winning goal in last Friday's 2-1 victory over Michigan Tech. He then had a hand in all three goals with a goal and two assists in a 3-1 win over the Huskies Saturday. Smith won 16 of 30 face-offs (.533), now leads Minnesota State in scoring and stands tied for second nationally with 11 goals, 15 assists and 26 points in 18 games played.  CCHA Defenseman of the Week: Trevor Cosgrove, Sr., Northern Michigan (Exeter, NH) Northern Michigan senior defenseman Trevor Cosgrove recorded a four-point weekend against number-one nationally ranked Minnesota Duluth to lead his CCHA club to a weekend home sweep over the Bulldogs. Friday he recorded a goal and two assists for a career-high three point night while registering the primary assist on the Wildcats' game-winning goal in the 5-4 victory Friday night. He then continued his scoring ways with the lone assist on NMU's second goal Saturday night when his stretch pass from deep in the defensive zone found a Wildcat forward alone in the neutral zone. Carried a strong defensive unit to a 2-0-0 record over the top-ranked Bulldogs on home ice.  CCHA Goaltender of the Week: Ethan Langenegger, So., Lake Superior State (Kamloops, B.C.) Lake Superior State sophomore goaltender Ethan Langenegger earns the award for the second-consecutive week after he recorded a shutout, an impressive 1.50 goals against average, a .953 save percentage and 61 saves in both games of action on the weekend. In Friday's 3-0 win, Langenegger earned his second career shutout and his second shutout in the last three games as the goalie stopped all 35 shots he faced in the game. The Kamloops, B.C. native followed with a 26 save effort against the Bulldogs on Saturday night in a 3-1 loss.  CCHA Rookie of the Week: Josh Nixon, Fr., Lake Superior State (Mississauga, Ont.) Lake Superior State freshman Josh Nixon led the Lakers to a 3-0 win over the Ferris State Bulldogs on Friday night as the forward posted his first career multi-goal game. Nixon scored his first goal of the game in the second period with his first career power play goal to give the Lakers a 1-0 lead in the game. The goal, which stood as the eventual game winner, marked the first game winning goal in Nixon's collegiate career. Later in the game, the Mississauga, Ont. native sealed the Laker victory with an empty net goal to make it a 3-0 score.
