CCHA Weekend Preview: Dec. 10-11

All eight CCHA teams are in action, 7 of which playing their final series before the Christmas break. Number-one nationally ranked Minnesota State will travel to Bemidji State, No. 19 Northern Michigan is at Lake Superior State, Ferris State is at Bowling Green and St. Thomas is on the road at Michigan Tech.

Nearly halfway into the 28-game CCHA slate, Minnesota State currently holds down the top spot in the conference standings owning a 10-2-0 record in league play for 29 points.  The Beavers, which are in second place, are five points behind with 24, are 8-2-0 in league play and have played two fewer CCHA contests.
 
In one of the most often visited rivalries and dating back to 1974, Minnesota State holds a 61-57-16 edge in the series, while BSU is 37-24-5 when hosting the Mavericks in Bemidji, Minn.

The Lakers and Wildcats will meet for the first of two series between the two conference foes this season. Last season, the Lakers and Wildcats met five times with the Lakers skating to a 4-1-0 record with the most recent meeting between the teams coming on March 20 in the WCHA Championship game. The Lakers earned a 6-3 win over NMU to clinch the conference championship and a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
 
In the all-time series between the two teams, the Lakers hold a 48-75-13 record against Northern Michigan.

Friday's game will mark the 150th meeting between the Falcons and Bulldogs, with the Orange and Brown holding a 76-60-13 advantage in the all-time series. The teams met for the first tie on Dec. 15, 1978. In their most recent meeting (Jan. 3, 2021), Bowling Green earned a 4-2 triumph. BGSU has won the last six games.

Michigan Tech hosts the newest NCAA Division I program St. Thomas this weekend for the first time in a CCHA series. Tech is 9-4-1 all-time against St. Thomas, dating back to 1922. The two teams played from 1922 until 1953. The Huskies are 9-4-1 in home games and 2-0 in away games.
