St. Thomas announces new broadcast partnership

The University of St. Thomas is excited to introduce a new broadcasting partner and a new primary play-by-play voice with its historic journey as a new member of NCAA Division I.

Tommie Athletics and its exclusive multimedia rights holder, Tommie Sports Properties, begin a new relationship today with KSTP-AM 1500/SKOR North.

Starting with the 2021-22 seasons, Tommie fans can listen live to game action on KSTP-AM 1500 and KSTP-FM 94.5 HD-2. This includes football, men's basketball and men's hockey game broadcasts, plus various women's contests.

Additional promotional support will be provided on the SKOR North digital platform, which features programs such as Mackey & Judd, Patrick Reusse, and Garage Logic with Joe Soucheray.

St. Thomas has also hired Corbu Stathes as play-by-play voice for Tommie football and men's basketball. The Colorado native has 20 years of experience as a broadcaster, including 14 seasons as the voice of Gopher Women's Basketball.  He has also been the studio host for Gopher Football and done play-by-play for Gopher Volleyball and the St. Paul Saints.

The first live broadcast will be Tommie Football's season opener set for Sept. 11 at Michigan Tech (kickoff is at noon Minnesota time).

"St. Thomas Athletics is thrilled to partner with KSTP-AM 1500 and Hubbard Radio to distribute Tommie contests as we launch our first year in D-I athletics," said Phil Esten, Vice President and Athletics Director. "The Hubbard family has a strong connection to St. Thomas and KSTP has a rich history of distributing sports throughout our region. We look forward to expanding the relationship through this agreement."

"This is such an exciting time for the University of St. Thomas, their thousands of alumni and the entire Twin Cities, as we welcome a new Division I sports program to Minnesota," said Dan Seeman, Vice President and Region Manager for Hubbard Radio in Minnesota. "We are proud to be a partner in what promises to be an exciting new era for Twin Cities sports."

Tommie Sports Properties is the locally-based LEARFIELD team which manages all broadcast operations and corporate partnerships for University of St. Thomas Athletics as part of the overall multimedia rights relationship.

St. Thomas is the first NCAA institution to move all of its athletics teams directly from Division III to D-I in one season. Tommie teams have begun competing in four conferences across all 21 sports: The Summit League (18 sports); the Pioneer Football League; the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) for women's hockey; and the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) for men's hockey.
