Weekend Preview: CCHA into full conference-play

This weekend marks just the third weekend this season when all eight CCHA teams are in conference play. Number-one nationally ranked Minnesota State is on the road at Northern Michigan, No. 19 Michigan Tech is at Lake Superior State, Bowling Green hosts Bemidji State and Ferris State hosts St. Thomas for the first ever time.

Mavericks Have Won 14 of Last 15 Games and Lead CCHA Standings With 14-2-0 League Mark. In a series that dates back to the 2013-14 season, Minnesota State stands 20-6-3 all-time vs. Northern Michigan.  The Mavericks are 8-2-0 in the last 10 games vs. the Wildcats and stand 8-3-3 vs. NMU in games played in Marquette.

This weekend, the Lakers and Huskies will meet for the second time this season, marking the final regular season meeting between the two U.P. rivals this year. Earlier this season, the Lakers traveled to Houghton, Mich. for a CCHA series on Nov. 5-6.  The Lakers won the series opener by a final score of 3-2 in overtime with Brandon Puricelli netting the game winner. Michigan Tech responded with a 2-0 win over the Lakers in the second game of the weekend series.

In the all-time series between the two teams, the Huskies hold the advantage in the series against the Lakers with a 51-28-8 all-time record.




 

Bemidji State at Bowling Green

Bemidji State is 14-16-3 (.470) all-time against Bowling Green in their series that dates back to 2011. Bowling Green is 10-4-1 against Bemidji State on home-ice. The Beavers are 9-2-0 when leading after the first period this season and are 10-0-0 when leading after two.

This weekend marks just the third and fourth games between St. Thomas and Ferris State and the first in Big Rapids. Earliee this campaign, the Tommies split a home series with Ferris State 11 weeks ago -- they lost 2-1 in OT on Friday Oct. 22, but came back and gained their first D-I win by a 5-2 count on Saturday Oct. 23.
