CCHA Players of the Week: Jan. 14-15

The CCHA is proud to recognize four student-athletes and its Players of the Week for the games of Jan. 14-15. Ferris State’s Ethan Stewart (Forward), Bemidji State’s Elias Rosén (Defenseman), Michigan Tech’s Blake Pietila (Goaltender) and St. Thomas’ Tim Piechowski (Rookie) took home this week’s honors.

CCHA Forward of the Week: Ethan Stewart, Sr., Minnesota State (Rockford, Ill.)

Ferris State senior forward Ethan Stewart recorded three points (1G, 2A) in two games this weekend, leading all Bulldog forwards in point-scoring. His power play goal Saturday, on a highlight reel passing play put Ferris State on the board where they'd go on to erase a 3-0 deficit before falling 4-3 to UST. Stewart had an assist in each game, was a team-best plus-3 on the weekend, blocked two shots and scored on 33.3 percent of his shots on goal.

 


CCHA Defenseman of the Week: Elias Rosén, Jr., Bemidji State (Mora, Sweden)

Bemidji State junior defenseman Elias Rosén recorded a four point (2G, 2A) weekend including one game-winning goal, four shots, a plus-2 rating and 1 blocked shot. He was four points were tied for the team lead to help the Beavers to a 1-1-0-0-1 weekend against Bowling Green. Rosén scored the game-winning, power play goal in Friday's 5-3 victory while also adding an assist. He then scored with 1:54 left to play and send the game into overtime in Saturday's 3-2 overtime loss.

 


CCHA Goaltender of the Week: Blake Pietila, Jr., Michigan Tech (Howell, Mich.)

Michigan Tech Junior defenseman Blake Pietila backstopped Michigan Tech to a CCHA road series sweep at Lake Superior State with a pair of 3-0 shutouts. Pietila earned his fourth and fifth shutouts of the season and now has eight career shutouts. The junior from Howell, Michigan made 21 saves Friday and 11 Saturday. He ranks fourth in the nation in shutouts, seventh in goals-against average (1.81), and second in the CCHA in save percentage (.921). Tech also went 6-for-6 on the penalty kill against LSSU and ranks third in the nation in penalty kill percentage. Pietila has started all 21 games for the Huskies and is 12-8-1.

 


CCHA Rookie of the Week: Tim Piechowski, Fr., St. Thomas (Eden Prairie, Minn.)

St. Thomas' Freshman forward Tim Piechowski recorded three points (2G, 1A) in two games to lead all CCHA rookies on the weekend. Piechowski scored two breakaway goals, one shorthanded, to help St. Thomas build a 3-0 lead in Saturday night's 4-3 defeat of Ferris State. The victory snapped the Purple's 15-game losing streak and was the first NCAA Division I road win for the Tommies. It also earned head coach Rico Blasi his 400th-career win behind-the-bench in 21 seasons of college hockey.
