Men's Ice Hockey 10/10/2022 11:37:27 AM CCHA Players of the Week: October 7-8 The Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) has announced its Players of the Week for the games of October 7-8 and four student-athletes from four different programs have been recognized. Mitchell Martan (Bemidji State) was named Forward of the Week, while Jake Livingstone (Minnesota State) earned Defenseman of the Week honors. Goaltender of the Week went to Zack Rose (Bowling Green) and Connor McGrath (Ferris State) was tabbed the conference’s Rookie of the Week. Martan registered a league-best four points on two goals and two assists last week, leading the Beavers to a season-opening split with Arizona State. He recorded the second-most shots among CCHA skaters (14) and his +2 was third best. On Saturday against the Sun Devils, he scored a power-play goal and netted the game-winning tally in overtime. Livingstone helped the fifth-ranked Mavericks to a season-opening split with in-state rival-No. 2 Minnesota last week, scoring a goal and assisting on another for two points. Also collecting five shots and five blocks, he was a +2 in the series. After netting his first goal of the season on Friday, he assisted on Minnesota State’s second goal on Saturday. Rose matched his career-high in saves on Friday, stopping 38 of 39 shots in Bowling Green’s 3-1 road victory over Michigan State. The senior made 10 saves in the first and 11 in the second before collecting 17 in the final frame to help seal the victory. He also made a save on Saturday when filling in for the injured Christian Stoever in 4:23 of ice time. For the season, he is 2-0 with a 2.89 goals against average and a .913 save percentage. McGrath led all CCHA freshmen in points (3) and goals (2), netting his first three collegiate points in Ferris State’s weekend split against a pair of nationally-ranked opponents in non-conference action. He picked up his first multi-goal game, scoring twice against No. 18 Western Michigan on Saturday, and won more than 50 percent of his face-offs on the weekend.
