All eight CCHA teams were in action on Friday night, with Bowling Green and Northern Michigan pulling out big non-league road wins. The Falcons opened a home-and-home series with Michigan State by beating the Spartans, 3-1, while the Wildcats earned a come-from-behind 3-2 victory at Colgate. Ferris State slipped past No. 20 Michigan Tech, 2-1, in non-league action, while No. 5 Minnesota State fell at No. 2 Minnesota, 4-1. Bemidji State and St. Thomas both dropped series-openers at home to Arizona State and Alaska, respectively. In exhibition play, Lake Superior State was handed a 5-2 defeat by the USNDTP Under-18 squad.
