Weekend Preview: Tight at the Top

With six of the eight CCHA teams in action, the league's weekend is highlighted by three competitive series. No. 7/8 Minnesota State hosts Northern Michigan in a battle of teams that are even in the conference standings with 11 points apiece. First-place Bowling Green heads up to Ferris State for a two-game set, while Michigan Tech travels west to face St. Thomas for a pair. Four teams are within three points of first place as we cross the midway point of November.

Ferris State welcomes first-place Bowling Green to town for a two-game series on Friday and Saturday. The Falcons boast the league's third-best power play at 23.9%, while the Bulldogs penalty kill is third in the conference at 85.1%. Bowling Green leads the all-time series 78-62-13, dating back to 1978.

The Huskies and Tommies meet for the 19th and 20th times in series history this weekend in Mendota Heights, Minn. Michigan Tech leads 12-4-2 all-time, dating back to 1920. Tech went 3-0-1 in the four games last season, which was the first action in the series since 1953.

The two teams with the longest unbeaten streaks in the CCHA meet in Mankato, Minn., for a conference series this Friday and Saturday. Winners of three straight, the Wildcats boast the league's top power-play unit at 26.7%, while the Mavericks aren't far behind at 25.0%. Minnesota State is 4-0-0 in its last four contests overall, including an overtime victory.
