Friday Recap: Tommies and Huskies Prevail

St. Thomas earned its first Division I shutout to highlight a trio of CCHA contests on Friday night. No. 20 Michigan Tech held off No. 10 Minnesota State to take the series opener in Houghton, while Bemidji State played North Dakota evenly, as the teams tied to begin their home-and-home weekend.

The 20th-ranked Huskies never trailed in topping 10th-ranked Minnesota State on Friday in the series opener. Blake Pietila made 33 saves and Kash Rasmussen's third period goal held up as the game-winner. David Silye scored late for the Mavericks, who were unable to find the tying goal.

Josh Eernisse scored two goals and Aaron Trotter stopped all 23 shots he faced to lead St. Thomas to its first shutout in Division I history. Seth Eisele had 32 saves for the Lakers.

The Beavers built a 3-1 lead early in the second period, but North Dakota fought back for the 3-3 tie on Friday night at Sanford Center. Lleyton Roed (goal, assist) and Elias Rosen (2 assists) paced Bemidji State with two points apiece.
