Friday Recap: Road Warriors

All four road teams came out on top Friday night, including three outright winners. No. 6 Minnesota State used a five-goal third period to top St. Thomas, while Northern Michigan and Michigan Tech were able to pick up three points away from home. Ferris State needed all 65 minutes plus a shootout to take 2-of-3 points from their opener at No. 20 Bemidji State.

The Bulldogs capitalized twice on the power play and outlasted the 20th-ranked Beavers in a shootout to open the weekend series in Bemidji. Junior Logan Stein 41 saves, including 14 in each of the first two periods, while Bemidji State freshman Kirklan Irey netted his first collegiate goal.

The Huskies scored in each period to earn a road win at Bowling Green on Friday night - the 100th of coach Joe Shawhan's career. Logan Ganie tallied six minutes into the third to provide the difference in a hotly contestly game. Blake Pietila had 41 saves, with 15 coming in the middle stanza. Ethan Scardina had a goal and an assist for the Falcons, including a shorthanded tally in the second.

Northern Michigan saw four different players find the scoresheet, including senior AJ Vanderbeck, who netted his league-leading seventh goal of the season, while also assisting on a David Keefer tally in the third period. Seth Eisele turned away 28 shots for the hosts, while Harrison Roy scored the Lakers' lone marker.

The Mavericks used a five-goal outburst in the third period to take the opener of the home-and-home series with St. Thomas on Friday night. Luc Wilson capped the rally with the final two tallies of the frame. Cooper Gay brought the hosts back from a two-goal deficit, netting his first two collegiate goals in the first and second periods, but the Mavericks erupted in the third to pull away.
