Saturday Recap: No. 6 Mavs and Wildcats Sweep

Sixth-ranked Minnesota State and Northern Michigan were able to complete weekend sweeps, despite both trailing on Saturday night. Bowling Green bounced back from a loss on Friday to hand Michigan Tech its worst loss of the year, while 20th-ranked Bemidji State came through in overtime to take the bonus point against Ferris State.

The 20th-ranked Beavers were able to salvage the overtime win point on Saturday night, converting on a 2-on-1 in the extra session with Ross Armour netting the winner. Bradley Marek sent the game to OT with a third period tally for the Bulldogs. Gavin Enright had 16 stops to earn his first win of the season.

Bowling Green scored twice in each period to pick up their second CCHA victory of the year and earn a weekend split with Michigan Tech. Six different Falcons scored, while four recorded multiple assists in the contest. Austen Swankler and Taylor Schneider each picked up a goal and an assist for the hosts, while Trevor Russell scored the lone Huskies goal.

The Wildcats rebounded from an early 2-0 deficit to top the Lakers, 5-3, and secure the weekend road sweep over their U.P. rivals. Four Northern Michigan skaters notched multiple points, including AJ Vanderbeck (1 goal, 1 assist) and Joey Larson (1 goal, 1 assist), while Lake Superior State saw six different players record a point.

Aided by a David Silye natural hat trick, the sixth-ranked Mavericks edged St. Thomas, 4-3, for the weekend home-and-home sweep. Lucas Sowder scored the eventual game-winning goal less than a minute into the third period as St. Thomas got a late tally from Luc Laylin to pull within one.Â
