CCHA Players of the Week: December 9-10

The Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) has announced its Players of the Week for the games of December 9-10 and four student-athletes from three different programs have been recognized. Kristof Papp (Northern Michigan) earned Forward of the Week, while Matt Slick (Ferris State) was the conference’s Defenseman of the Week. Alex Tracy (Minnesota State) and Christian Fitzgerald (Minnesota State) earned Goaltender and Rookie of the Week, respectively.

CCHA Forward of the Week: Kristof Papp, Jr., Northern Michigan (Budapest, Hungary) 

 
Papp led all CCHA skaters in goals (3) and points (4), while collecting one assist, nine shots, one block and four face-off wins in a series split at Ferris State last week. One of his goals came on the power play. On Friday, he had a goal and an assist in a 5-2 loss to the Bulldogs, before netting a pair of goals in a 5-2 victory on Saturday. For the weekend, he was +2. 
 
CCHA Defenseman of the Week: Matt Slick, Sr., Ferris State (Buffalo, N.Y.) 
 
Slick helped the Bulldogs to a split with Northern Michigan last week, leading all CCHA blueliners in goals (2) and points (3), including one power play goal. Posting a +2 for the weekend, he had three shots and one block at the defensive end of the ice. He produced a multi-point game (1 goal, 1 assist) on Friday in Ferris State’s 5-2 victory over the Wildcats, before adding a goal on Saturday. 

CCHA Goaltender of the Week: Alex Tracy, Fr., Minnesota State (Chicago, Ill.) 
 
Tracy led all CCHA goalies in wins (2), goals-against average (1.50) and save percentage (.933) helping No. 16 Minnesota State to a road sweep of Bowling Green last week. He made 25 saves in a 2-1 victory over the Falcons on Friday, before turning away 17 in a 6-2 triumph on Saturday. For the weekend, he totaled 42 saves in 120:00 minutes, including 34-of-35 shots during 5-on-5 play. 

CCHA Rookie of the Week: Christian Fitzgerald, Fr., Minnesota. State (Coquitlam, B.C.) 
 
Fitzgerald paced CCHA freshmen skaters with three goals last week, aiding the Mavericks to a road sweep of Bowling Green. He also recorded the second-most shots (10) among all conference players and was a league-best +4, with a power play tally, two blocks and four face-off wins (.500). On Friday, he scored the opening goal for Minnesota State in a 2-1 win over the Falcons. He then found the back of the net twice in a 6-2 victory on Saturday.
