CCHA Players of the Week: December 15-17

The Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) has announced its Players of the Week for the games of December 15-17 and four student-athletes from three different programs have been recognized. Jakub Lewandowski (Bemidji State) was named Forward of the Week, while Brenden MacLaren (Ferris State) was the Defenseman of the Week. Mattias Sholl (Bemidji State) collected his third Goaltender of the Week honor this year and Jake Braccini (St. Thomas) was selected as the conference’s Rookie of the Week.

CCHA Forward of the Week: Jakub Lewandowski, So., Bemidji State (Torun, Poland) 

 
Lewandowski recorded a league-high two goals and an assist for three points, helping the Beavers to its first sweep of No. 16 Minnesota State since 2006, last week. He earned an assist in Friday night’s 4-3 victory over the Mavericks, before collecting a goal and an assist in a 4-1 win on Saturday. For the week, he was +3 with two shots and one block at the defensive end of the ice. 
 
CCHA Defenseman of the Week: Brenden MacLaren, Sr., Ferris State (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.) 
 
MacLaren led all CCHA defensemen in points (3) last week, scoring a goal and assisting on two more, while posting a league-leading +4 rating. The Bulldog co-captain also led all CCHA blueliners with seven shots and blocked two defensively. On Saturday, he scored the eventual game-winning goal in Ferris State’s 4-2 victory. 

CCHA Goaltender of the Week: Mattias Sholl, So., Bemidji State (Hermosa Beach, Calif.) 
 
Sholl went 2-0-0 with a 1.93 goals-against average and a .942 save percentage, helping Bemidji State to its first sweep of No. 16 Minnesota State since 2006. He made a league-high 65 saves over 124:31 minutes and led all two-start netminders in GAA and SV%. On Friday, he 34 stops in a 4-3 overtime victory, before turning away 31-of-32 in a 4-1 win over the Mavericks. 
 
CCHA Rookie of the Week: Jake Braccini, Fr., St. Thomas (Hanover, Minn.) 

 
Braccini led the league with five points last week, netting two goals and picking up three assists to aid the Tommies to a split with Ferris State. On Friday, he broke out with a four-point game, scoring a goal and assisting on three others, including the eventual game-winner. He then scored on Saturday in a 4-2 defeat. For the week, he was a –3 with two power-play goals, eight shots and one block.
