Men's Ice Hockey 2/19/2022 8:00:00 PM Minnesota State captures MacNaughton Cup The Minnesota State Mavericks secured the MacNaughton Cup as the Central Collegiate Hockey Association’s (CCHA) top regular season team, officially clinching the trophy with a victory over Bemidji State Saturday on home-ice in front of a sellout crowd of 5,130 fans at the Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center in Mankato, Minn. Purchase MacNaughton Cup Champions Gear Video: Highlights  | Ceremony  | On-Ice Reaction Hastings Mic'd Up in Locker Room  | Cinematic Recap Hastings' Press Conference Photo Gallery The Mavericks improved to 21-3-0 (62 points) in CCHA conference play and are guaranteed to finish with more points than any other team in the league, even with two games remaining in the CCHA regular season.  Minnesota State is officially the No. 1 seed in the 2022 CCHA Mason Cup Playoffs and will host eighth-seed St. Thomas in the first round.  This is the fifth consecutive year that Minnesota State has captured the MacNaughton Cup, as the trophy was also awarded to the regular season champion in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA).  The MacNaughton Cup, known as the premiere trophy in collegiate hockey, dates back 108 years to its original purchase in 1913, stands three-feet high, and weighs more than 40 pounds of hand-crafted silver. It is the second oldest trophy in hockey, only after the NHL’s Stanley Cup.
