The MacNaughton Cup, awarded to the CCHA regular season champion, can be captured this weekend by the Minnesota State Mavericks on home-ice in Mankato. Number-one nationally ranked Minnesota State hosts Bemidji State, No. 14 Michigan Tech is on the road at Ferris State, Bowling Green hosts Northern Michigan and St. Thomas welcomes Lake Superior State.Â

Minnesota State enters their home series riding a seven-game winning stream and 16 Wins in Last 17 Games. One of its oldest-rivals and most-often played opponents, Minnesota State first played Bemidji State during the 1974-75 season. Minnesota State stands 64-61-21 in the all-time series vs. the Beavers. Including 5-1 and 3-1 wins in a pair of league games played in Bemidji earlier this year (Dec. 10-11), the Mavericks have gone 7-4-1 vs. BSU in the last 12 meetings between the two schools.
Of note, the wife of Bemidji State radio broadcaster Brian Schultz, Kelly Scultz, will fill-in for Brian this weekend. Kelly is the radio broadcaster for the Bemidji State women's hockey team.

Michigan Tech is the only other CCHA team that can capture the MacNaughton Cup. Michigan Tech is 27-16-1 all-time against Ferris State, dating back to 1982. The Huskies are 12-9-0 against the Bulldogs in Big Rapids, have won the last eight meetings and 11 of the last 12.
The Falcons lead the all-time series, 57-54-10. In their first series of the season, Northern Michigan secured five of the six conference points with a regulation win and shootout win.

The Lakers and St. Thomas will meet for the second time this season as the two teams met for a Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) series at the Taffy Abel Arena in Sault Ste. Marie on Oct. 15 & 16. The Lakers swept the series against the Tommies to improve to 3-0 all-time against St. Thomas as the two teams met for a single game in March 1974. The Lakers posted a 3-1 win over St. Thomas on Friday, Oct. 15 and followed with a 6-3 win over the Tommies to open their conference season.?
