Bemidji State University men’s hockey senior and alternate captain Alex Ierullo has signed an amateur contract tryout (ATO) with the Ontario Reign of the American Hockey League for the remainder of the 2021-22 season. Ontario is the top developmental team of the National Hockey League’s Los Angeles Kings.
Ierullo, a native of Woodbridge, Ont., could make his debut with the Reign as soon as Saturday, March 26 when the Reign travel to face the San Diego Gulls at 7 p.m. PDT. Ierullo will play out the remainder of the season with the Reign which includes 14 regular season games as well as the Calder Cup Playoffs. The Reign have already clinched a playoff position in the Calder Cup Playoffs and are 34-13-4 on the season.
In four seasons with the Beavers, Ierullo totaled 96 points (36g-60a) in 136 career games which ranks 11th among BSU skaters during the Beavers’ Division I era. The senior’s 60 career assists are the ninth most at BSU (Division 1). This season, Ierullo totaled the second most points in a single season at BSU (DI) with 42 points (16g-26a) and tied for 13th in the nation. Ierullo helped lead the Beavers to the Central Collegiate Hockey Association Championship game this season and is a two-time WCHA All-Academic Team selection.
Ierullo joins Owen Sillinger to sign a contract to play in the AHL as well as Brad Johnson and Tyler Kirkup as former Beavers to ink professional hockey deals (ECHL) following the conclusion of the Beavers’ season.Â
