Bemidji State University men’s hockey senior and co-captain Owen Sillinger has signed an American Hockey League contract to play professionally with the Cleveland Monsters of the AHL for the 2022-23 season as well as a pro tryout contract (PTO) for the remainder of the 2021-22 season. Cleveland is the top developmental team of the National Hockey League’s Columbus Blue Jackets where is younger brother Cole Sillinger was drafted 12th overall in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft.
Sillinger, a native of Regina, Sask., could make his debut with the Monsters as soon as tonight (March 25) when the Monsters host the Charlotte Checkers at 7 p.m. CDT. Sillinger will play out the remainder of the regular season with the Monsters which includes 17 regular season games. The Monsters currently sit six games back of a North Division Calder Cup playoff spot and are 22-25-8 on the season.
In four seasons with the Beavers, Sillinger totaled 115 points (51g-64a) in 134 career games to tie for fourth among BSU skaters during its Division I era for most points in a career. The senior’s 51 career goals and 64 career assists rank fifth among BSU’s DI skaters in goals and assists. This season, Sillinger recorded the program’s DI record for most points in a single season after totaling 47 points off 17 goals and 30 assists. His 30 assists were also a program single season record. Sillinger was named to the All-CCHA Second Team after helping the Beavers reach the Central Collegiate Hockey Association Championship game and was named a CCHA Forward of the Week and CCHA Forward of the Month earlier this season.
Sillinger joins Brad Johnson and Tyler Kirkup as former Beavers to ink professional hockey deals following the conclusion of the Beavers’ season.Â
