McKay named finalist for Hobey Baker Award

Minnesota State Mavericks goaltender Dryden McKay is one of three Hobey Baker Hat Trick finalists for the 2022 Hobey Baker Memorial Award, honoring college hockey’s top player.

This is the second straight year that McKay has been named a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award, which goes to the top men's hockey player in the nation.  The other two finalists are forwards Bobby Brink from Denver and Ben Meyers from Minnesota.

A native of Downers Grove, Ill., McKay was recently named the CCHA Player of the Year and CCHA Goaltender of the Year for his efforts this season. He is also a top-three finalist for the Mike Richter Award, which goes to the top goaltender in the nation.

A two-time All-American, McKay stands 37-4-0 for the season with a .934 save percentage and a 1.28 goals against average. His 37 wins this year lead the nation and have established an NCAA DI men's hockey record for single-season victories.

Already this year McKay established a NCAA standard for career shutouts (he has 34) and a Minnesota State record for career wins (112, which stands second all-time in NCAA history). He is the only goaltender in the history of NCAA men's hockey with three years of 10 shutouts.

For his four-year college career, the Downers Grove, Ill., native stands 112-19-4 with a 1.45 GAA, and .932 Sv% in 138 games played.  McKay has helped lead Minnesota State to two consecutive NCAA Frozen Fours, with the Mavericks scheduled to square-off against Minnesota April 7 in national semi-final action in Boston, Mass.

The Hobey Baker Award winner will be announced on Friday, April 8 at the Encore Boston Harbor Resort and will also be broadcast live on the NHL Network and streamed at hobeybaker.com beginning at 6pm ET.
