Minnesota State Names Captains

Mankato, Minn. - Minnesota State head coach Mike Hastings has announced that senior forwards Brendan Furry and Cade Borchardt will serve as captains for the 2022-23 men's hockey team.

Named alternate captains are senior forward Sam Morton and junior defenseman Jake Livingstone.

Furry, a Toledo, Ohio, native, who has 18-39--57 in 72 career games played, posted 13 goals and 31 assists for 44 points and played in all 44 games as a junior.  He was named to Albany Regional All-Tournament Team (1-1-2 in two games) in helping lead the Mavericks to the 2022 Frozen Four.

Borchardt, who hails from Burnsville, Minn., has registered 24-41--65 in 82 games played in three years of college hockey. He totalled 15 goals and 26 assists for 41 points and played in all 44 games in his junior season with the Mavericks in ranking fourth on Minnesota State's scoring charts.

A native of Lafayette, Colo., Morton had 9-16--25 in 38 games played in 2021-22 and was named All-Tournament at 2022 Frozen Four in Boston. He has 14 goals and 20 assists for 34 points in 55 games in two years with the Mavericks.

Livingston has racked up 13-32--45 in 72 career games with Minnesota State. The Creston, B.C., native had 9-22--31 and played in all 44 games last year and in addition to being named CCHA Defenseman of the Year, also picked up First Team All-CCHA honors.
 
Minnesota State was 38-6-0 overall in 2021-22 and in addition to claiming CCHA regular-season and post-season tournament championships, won the NCAA Albany Region championship in advancing to the Frozen Four for the second consecutive year.
