CCHA Players of the Week: October 27-28

The Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) has announced its Players of the Week for the games on October 27-28 and four student-athletes from three different programs have been recognized. Jared Westcott (Lake Superior State) was named Forward of the Week, while Josh Zinger (Northern Michigan) was the Defenseman of the Week. Beni Halasz (Northern Michigan) earned Goaltender of the Week honors and Eric Pohlkamp (Bemidji State) collected his first Rookie of the Week award.

CCHA Forward: Jared Westcott, Jr., Lake Superior State (Imperial, Mo.)  

 
Westcott led the Lakers to a 2-0 road weekend, recording a CCHA-best five points on four goals and one assist. Also leading the league in plus-minus (+6), he notched a goal and an assist in a 4-3 overtime win at Clarkson on Friday, before netting a hat trick in a 5-2 triumph at St. Lawrence on Saturday. For the week, he had eight shots on goal, with one power play and one game-winning tally.

CCHA Defenseman of the Week: Josh Zinger, So., Northern Michigan (Red Deer, Alb.) 
 
Zinger led all conference blueliners with two points on a goal and an assist last week, while registering a +1 rating. Helping the Wildcats to a 1-1-0 start to their CCHA schedule, he had a hand in two of NMU’s four goals on Saturday in a 4-1 victory over Ferris State. Scoring a power play goal in the contest, he had five shots on goal for the weekend.

CCHA Goaltender of the Week: Beni Halasz, So., Northern Michigan (Budapest, Hungary) 
 
Halasz posted a 1.44 goals-against average and a .955 save percentage which were both tops in the CCHA among two-start goaltenders last week. Also leading the league in saves (64), his weekend was highlighted by stopping 37-of-38 shots in a 4-1 victory over Ferris State on Saturday night. Helping the Wildcats to a perfect penalty kill, he made 10 saves while shorthanded. 

CCHA Rookie of the Week: Eric Pohlkamp, Fr., Bemidji State (Brainerd, Minn.) 
 
Pohlkamp paced all CCHA rookies with two points last week, registering a pair of assists in the Beavers’ weekend sweep of St. Thomas. On Friday, he helped set up the eventual game-winning goal in a 3-2 win, before doing the same the following night in a 2-0 victory. For the weekend, he had five shots on goal, while blocking seven at the defensive end, which was the most among all league skaters.
