CCHA Forward of the Week: Luke Manning, Sr., St. Thomas (Stillwater, Minn.) Â
Â
Manning paced all conference skaters with three points on a goal and two assists. Scoring his tally on the power play, he recorded four shots on goal and won nine face-offs, while helping the Tommies to a weekend split with then-No. 8 St. Cloud State. All three of his points came in St. Thomas’ 5-4 overtime victory on Saturday – the program’s first over a non-league, ranked opponent.
CCHA Defenseman of the Week: Travis Shoudy, So., Ferris State (Marysville, Mich.)Â
Â
Shoudy helped Ferris State to a split of their opening weekend series against Miami University, collecting a league-high three assists for three points over two contests. He was a CCHA-best +3 for the Bulldogs, with seven shots on goal from the blue line. Highlighting his week was a two-helper game on Saturday that saw Ferris State erase a three-goal deficit in the second period to win, 5-4, in overtime.Â
CCHA Goaltender of the Week: Christian Stoever, Jr., Bowling Green (Northville, Mich.)Â
Â
Stoever backstopped the Falcons to a weekend split with Robert Morris University, going 1-1-0 with a CCHA-leading 1.02 goals against average and .962 save percentage. Second in total saves on the weekend with 51, he turned in one of eight shutouts across all of Division I men’s hockey from the opening weekend – stopping all 27 shots he faced in a 3-0 victory at RMU on Saturday night. The blanking was the third of his collegiate career.Â
Â
CCHA Rookie of the Week: John Herrington, Fr., Lake Superior State (Hudson’s Hope, B.C.)Â
Â
Herrington scored his first collegiate goal on Sunday at No. 9 Michigan State University, helping the Lakers draw to within 3-2 in the third period of a game that the Spartans eventually won, 4-2. In the two-game series in East Lansing, he registered a team-high six shots on goal and was –2. Through 2.5 seasons with the Prince George Spruce Kings (BCHL), prior to joining Lake Superior State, he amassed 116 points on 54 goals and 62 assists in 136 contests.
