Weekend Preview: Packed House

For the first time in 2023-24, all eight CCHA teams will square off in conference play. Cappo Cup action opens in Marquette, as Northern Michigan hosts Lake Superior State, while Michigan Tech visits Bemidji State for a pair. Minnesota State and St. Thomas head east to take on Ferris State and Bowling Green, respectively.

The Huskies open conference play against the Beavers in Bemidji this weekend, where the hosts are already four games in. The all-time series is currently split, 21-21-7, with Bemidji State holding a 14-11-1 edge at home. Tech earned its first two wins of the season last weekend against Augustana, while the Beavers will look to rebound after being swept at Lake Superior State.

Winners of five-of-six games, the Lakers head across the UP to take on Northern Michigan in the Cappo Cup-opening series. The Wildcats are holders of the cup after winning it in 2022-23 and are also 80-53-13 against Lake Superior State all-time. LSSU swept Bemidji State to open its conference schedule, while Northern dropped two at St. Thomas last weekend.

The Tommies visit Bowling Green this weekend for a two-game set, following a sweep of Northern Michigan at home. The Falcons, who open CCHA action on Friday, own a 6-1-1 lead in the all-time series with St. Thomas, but are winless in the last two meetings, which took place in Mendota Heights in late January of last season. BGSU split a non-league series with Mercyhurst over the weekend.

Fresh off a bye weekend, the Mavericks fly east to take on Ferris State for a pair. The two split their regular season meetings last year, before Minnesota State won the Mason Cup Semifinal matchup. The Mavericks own a 35-11-2 lead in the all-time series, which dates back to 1992.

Augustana and Lindenwood meet for the first time ever this weekend, when the Vikings head down to Missouri. The Vikings fell twice at Michigan Tech last weekend and look to rebound against the Lions, who have played four games against top-20 opposition, had an 0-1-1 trip to St. Thomas three weeks ago.
