The Hockey Commissioners Association (HCA) has announced a “Watch List” for the Tim Taylor Award, given annually to the top first-year player in NCAA Division I Men’s Hockey and two student-athletes from the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) have been selected. Joey Larson (Northern Michigan) and Lleyton Roed (Bemidji State) have been named to the group of 27 vying for the honor.

Below are the two CCHA student-athletes named to the watch list:
Joey Larson, Fr., Northern Michigan (Brighton, Mich.)
Larson has played in 26 games for the Wildcats this season, scoring eight goals with 11 assists for 19 points. He ranks sixth among all CCHA skaters with five power play tallies and is ninth at 2.81 shots per game. Third among conference rookies in multi-point games (4), he has produced a trio of three-game point streaks this season, including one currently in which he has three goals and one assist. In total, the CCHA Preseason Rookie of the Year has 73 shots on goal, with 18 blocks at the defensive end. He has earned league Rookie of the Week honors three times.
Lleyton Roed, Fr., Bemidji State (White Bear Lake, Minn.)
Roed paces all CCHA rookies with 22 points on nine goals and 13 assists in 28 games. The reigning conference Rookie of the Month from January, he ranks eighth among all league skaters in shots per game (2.93) and multi-point games (6). In 20 CCHA contests, he has eight goals and 10 assists for 18 points, which ranks sixth among all skaters. His 0.90 points per game is good for fifth overall and his 12 shots at Michigan Tech on October 21, 2022, is still the fourth-most by an individual in the league this year.
The Tim Taylor Award has been awarded every year since 2007. A committee of voters — made up of a cross section of coaches, administrators, scouts and media — will pare this list down to approximately 15 names within the next three weeks and then ultimately choose the winner who will be announced in April during the NCAA Frozen Four.
