All-CCHA First Team Honorees Revealed

The Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) has announced the 2022-23 All-CCHA First Team and six student-athletes from four different programs have been recognized. Forwards Ryland Mosley (Michigan Tech), David Silye (Minnesota State) and Austen Swankler (Bowling Green) are joined by defensemen Jake Livingstone (Minnesota State) and Elias Rosén (Bemidji State) and goaltender Blake Pietila (Michigan Tech).

Mosley (Arnprior, Ont.) played in all 26 CCHA games for Michigan Tech this season, scoring nine goals with 10 assists for 19 points. Finishing at +3, he had three goals on the power play, two shorthanded and two game-winners. Notching 87 shots on goal, he blocked six at the defensive end and took just four penalties for 11 minutes. His two shorthanded tallies led the conference and he ranked third in shots. 

Silye (Arnprior, Ont.) recorded 29 points on 19 goals and 10 assists, while playing in a 26 league games for Minnesota State. He finished the conference schedule with an even plus-minus, with 10 power play goals and one game-winner. Netting the only hat trick in CCHA play this season (November 5 vs. St. Thomas), he recorded 66 shots and was second in the league with 314 face-off wins. Named CCHA Forward of the Month in November, he paced the conference in goals, multi-point games (9) and shooting percentage (.288), while finishing second in points and points per game (1.12).  

Swankler (North Huntingdon, Pa.) led the CCHA in points (32) and assists (19), while scoring 13 goals in 26 conference games for Bowling Green. Notching at least one point in 22 contests, he amassed a nation-best 19-game points streak across all competitions. Four of his goals came on the power play and two were game-winners. Recording 65 shots on goal, the two-time CCHA Forward of the Month ranked second in plus-minus (+12) and multi-point games (7), fourth in game-winners, sixth in goals and seventh in shooting percentage (.200).  

Livingstone (Creston, B.C.) paced all CCHA blueliners in points (22) and assists (17), while netting five goals and playing in all 26 league contests for Minnesota State. Third among all skaters in assists, he was fourth overall in game-winning goals (2) and plus-minus (+9), with three multi-point games. Recording 61 shots on goal, the October CCHA Defenseman of the Month had one power play tally and 28 blocks at the defensive end of the ice, while helping the Mavericks to a 2.15 team goals-against average. 

Rosén (Mora, Sweden) was second among CCHA defensemen in scoring with 21 points on four goals and 17 assists, while playing in all 26 games for Bemidji State. Tied for the league lead in blueliner assists, he was 10th overall in points and ninth in blocked shots (39) and blocked shots per game (1.5). Recoding five multi-point games, he was one of five players and only two defensemen to notch a four-point game, when he tallied a goal and three assists at St. Thomas on February 25. 

Pietila (Howell, Mich.) played in 24 CCHA games this season, going 14-7-3 with a 2.02 goals-against average and a .929 save percentage. He led the league in wins, save percentage and shutouts (6), while finishing second in goals-against average and minutes played (1425:48). Ranking third in total saves (625), he allowed two or fewer goals in 16 conference games. The Richter Award Finalist was the league’s Goaltender of the Month three times.

The league's major awards will be announced tomorrow and Thursday, beginning with Rookie of the Year (11am ET/10am CT), Defenseman of the Year (12pm ET/11am CT), Goaltender of the Year (1pm ET/12pm CT) and Forward of the Year (2pm ET/1pm CT). The following day, Coach of the Year (11am ET/10am CT) and Player of the Year (1pm ET/12pm CT) will be revealed. 

The 2023 Mason Cup Championship Game is scheduled for Saturday night in Mankato, Minn. (6:07pm CT), where top-seed Minnesota State (24-12-1) hosts fourth-seed Northern Michigan (21-16-0) with an automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Championship on the line.
