The Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) has announced the 2022-23 All-CCHA Second Team and six student-athletes from six different programs have been recognized. Forwards Louis Boudon (Lake Superior State), Nathan Burke (Bowling Green) and Andre Ghantous (Northern Michigan) were named to the squad, along with defensemen Akito Hirose (Minnesota State) and Brett Thorne (Michigan Tech) and goaltender Mattias Sholl (Bemidji State).

Boudon (Grenoble, France) recorded six goals and 10 assists for 16 points while playing in all 26 CCHA games for Lake Superior State. Closing out the conference schedule on a three-game point streak (2 goals, 3 assists), he won 50.1% of his face-offs on the year, including a league-high 334 draws in total. He ranked fourth among conference skaters in shots (86) and shots per game (3.31). His season was highlighted by a three-assist game on December 9, 2022, at Bemidji State.
Burke (Scottsdale, Ariz.) played in all 26 league games for the Falcons, scoring 15 goals with nine assists for 24 points. Finishing at +6, he netted six power play tallies and one game-winner, with 70 shots and eight blocks at the defensive end of the ice. Second in the league in goals and goals per game (0.58), he finished sixth in points, points per game (0.92) and shooting percentage (21.4%). Registering four multi-point games, he recorded at least one point in 17 of Bowling Green’s final 19 games, including a 13-game point streak.
Ghantous (Glendale, Calif.) closed out the regular season on a tear, finishing with nine goals and 17 assists for 26 points in 26 CCHA contests. He was a +2 with four power play tallies and one game-winner. Notching 52 shots, he was second among conference skaters with seven multi-point games. Third in points and points per game (1.00), he was sixth in assists and assists per game (0.65) and was the only player to record two multi-goal games.
Hirose (Calgary, Alb.) recorded two goals and 15 assists for 17 points in 25 CCHA games this season, ranking seventh in blueline scoring and eighth in assists. Both of his tallies were game-winning goals, which was good for fourth among all skaters. Also finishing fourth overall in plus-minus (+9), he registered four multi-point games on the year, including back-to-back two-point efforts in a sweep of Lake Superior State on January 20-21. He also put together two four-game point streaks throughout the season. Notching 54 shots on goal, he blocked 21 at the defensive end of the ice.
Thorne (Halifax, N.S.) played in 23 conference games this season for the Huskies, totaling 14 assists for 14 points. Finishing a league-best +13, he was eighth in defenseman scoring and 10th overall. One of only five players to record four points in a game during CCHA play, he had four helpers at St. Thomas on November 18. He had 57 shots on goal, while blocking 34 defensively and committed 12 minor penalties for 24 minutes.
Sholl (Hermosa Beach, Calif.) appeared in 24 CCHA games this season, posting a 10-10-3 record, with a 2.21 goals-against average and a .910 save percentage. He made 528 saves over 1412:39 minutes of action and had one shutout. In the conference, he ranked third in goals-against average and shutouts, fifth in save percentage and sixth in total saves. He had 14 games of 20 or more saves and four with 30 or more. Surrendering two or fewer goals in 15 contests, his shutout came against Northern Michigan on January 20, when he turned away 18 shots.

More conference awards will be announced throughout the week, including the All-CCHA First Team this afternoon (1pm ET/12pm CT). Tomorrow, the league will release the Rookie of the Year (11am ET/10am CT), Defenseman of the Year (12pm ET/11am CT), Goaltender of the Year (1pm ET/12pm CT) and Forward of the Year (2pm ET/1pm CT). On Thursday, the Coach of the Year (11am ET/10am CT) and Player of the Year (1pm ET/12pm CT) will be revealed.
The 2023 Mason Cup Championship Game is scheduled for Saturday night in Mankato, Minn. (6:07pm CT), where top-seed Minnesota State (24-12-1) hosts fourth-seed Northern Michigan (21-16-0) with an automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Championship on the line.
