Silye Garners Forward of the Year

The Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) today announced that Minnesota State junior David Silye has been named the CCHA Forward of the Year.

Silye (Arnprior, Ont.) leads the CCHA with 23 goals and has dished out 16 assists for 39 points in 37 games for No. 12 Minnesota State. The conference’s leader in power play goals (12), hat tricks (1) and shooting percentage (.264), he is second in points and face-off wins (434). He has two game-winning goals, 87 shots on goal and is a +3 with 12 blocks at the defensive end of the ice. 

Named the CCHA Forward of the Month in November, Silye was a three-time Forward of the Week in the league this season.  

Silye recorded 29 points on 19 goals and 10 assists, while playing in all 26 league games for Minnesota State. He finished the conference schedule with an even plus-minus, with 10 power play goals and one game-winner. Netting the only hat trick in CCHA play this season (November 5 vs. St. Thomas), he recorded 66 shots and was second in the league with 314 face-off wins. Named CCHA Forward of the Month in November, he paced the conference in goals, multi-point games (9) and shooting percentage (.288), while finishing second in points and points per game (1.12).

Voting for the 2022-23 All-CCHA Teams and CCHA Players/Coach of the Year awards were conducted by the eight head coaches at each CCHA member institution, based on CCHA conference games only. Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own players or themselves. 

The league's major award announcements conclude tomorrow, as the CCHA Coach of the Year (11am ET/10am CT) and Player of the Year (1pm ET/12pm CT) will be revealed. 

The 2023 Mason Cup Championship Game is scheduled for Saturday night in Mankato, Minn. (6:07pm CT), where top-seed Minnesota State (24-12-1) hosts fourth-seed Northern Michigan (21-16-0) with an automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Championship on the line.
