Tampa, Fla. - The CCM/AHCA Hockey All-America Teams have been announced for the 2022-23 season and two Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) student-athletes have been honored. Blake Pietila of Michigan Tech and Jake Livingstone of Minnesota State were selected to the First and Second Team, respectively, as announced on Friday during the Frozen Four weekend.
A senior goaltender, Pietila (Howell, Mich.) started 37 games for Michigan Tech this season, going 23-11-3 with a 2.15 goals-against average and a .924 save percentage. The conference's Goaltender of the Year leads the nation in shutouts with 10, while also holding the school record in that category for both a single-season and career (20). Entering the NCAA Tournament, he ranked second in the country in victories, third in save percentage and fourth in goals-against average. He finished with 951 total saves in 2173:57 minutes, including 30 games with at least 20 or more stops and 12 games with 30 or more.
Pietila played in 24 CCHA games this season, going 14-7-3 with a 2.02 goals-against average and a .929 save percentage. He led the league in wins, save percentage and shutouts (6), while finishing second in goals-against average and minutes played (1425:48). Ranking third in total saves (625), he allowed two or fewer goals in 16 conference games. The Richter Award Finalist was the league’s Goaltender of the Month three times.
A junior defenseman, Livingstone (Creston, B.C.) led all CCHA skaters with 27 assists to go along with eight goals for 35 points, which ranked fourth in the league. His 0.92 points per game were fifth and his 52 blocked shots were ninth. He led conference defensemen in games played (39), goals, assists, power play goals (3) and game-winning goals (2). The All-CCHA First Team selection was fourth in plus-minus (+10).
The CCHA Defenseman of the Year, as well as Defenseman of Month in October, Livingstone was a four-time Defenseman of the Week in the conference.
Livingstone paced all CCHA blueliners in points (22) and assists (17), netting five goals, while playing in all 26 league contests for Minnesota State. Third among all skaters in assists, he was fourth overall in game-winning goals (2) and plus-minus (+9), with three multi-point games. Recording 61 shots on goal, the October CCHA Defenseman of the Month had one power play tally and 28 blocks at the defensive end of the ice, while helping the Mavericks to a 2.15 team goals-against average.
