Weekend Preview: Motors Revving

The calendar year 2024 opens with an eight-game weekend of action in the CCHA, including a Bemidji State-Ferris State conference series in Big Rapids, Minnesota State visiting future league-foe Augustana and the annual Bowling Green-Ohio State home-and-home series. In exhibition play, Northern Michigan hosts Michigan Tech and St. Thomas welcomes Minnesota Duluth to town on Saturday.
 
Seven of this weekend's eight games will be available on CCHA TV, by visiting FloHockey, while one is on B1G+.

The first-place Beavers visit eighth-place Ferris State in the lone conference series of the weekend on Friday and Saturday. The Bulldogs own a 19-18-6 lead in the all-time series, but Bemidji State is 5-3-2 over the last 10 meetings. The two meet again for a two-game set in Bemidji in mid-February.

The Mavericks visit Augustana for a two-game series on Friday and Saturday in Sioux Falls. The weekend's contests will be the final two home games for the Vikings prior to the opening of Midco Arena. Augie is coming off a pair of losses at Notre Dame including an overtime decision on Sunday afternoon. Minnesota State has been idle since split at RPI on December 15 and 16.

Bowling Green heads to Columbus on Friday, before the series turns to "The Slate" on Saturday night. Meeting for the 189th and 190th times, the Falcons are 98-80-10, but the Buckeyes have had the better of the matchup at home, going 46-38-3. BGSU looks to regain the form it showed in early December, while Ohio State beat Mercyhurst its time out, snapping a four-game winless streak.

The Bulldogs and Tommies have never played in a regulation NCAA contest, but will square off in exhibition play for the second time on Saturday afternoon in Mendota Heights. Minnesota Duluth is coming off split at the Kwik Trip Holiday Face-Off last weekend, falling to Northeastern, before knocking off Air Force.

Fresh off their 12th Great Lakes Invitational title, Michigan Tech visits Upper Peninsula-rival Northern Michigan for a rare exhibition matchup at Berry Events Center. The two teams split their first regular season weekend with each team winning at home. They will reconvene in early February for the second leg of the conference meetings.
