CCHA Players of the Week: January 5-6

The Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) has announced its Players of the Week for the games on January 5-6 and four student-athletes from three different programs have been recognized. Lleyton Roed (Bemidji State) was named the Forward of the Week, while Evan Murr (Minnesota State) and Keenan Rancier (Minnesota State) were selected as the Defenseman and Goaltender of the Week, respectively. Luigi Benincasa (Ferris State) picked up his third Rookie of the Week honor.

CCHA Forward of the Week: Lleyton Roed, Sophomore, Bemidji State (White Bear Lake, Minn.)


Roed led all conference skaters with four points on two goals and two assists, while also posting a league-best +3 rating in the Beavers’ road split at Ferris State last weekend. On Friday, he dished out a pair of helpers in a 4-1 Bemidji State victory. He then netted two goals in a 5-3 loss to the Bulldogs on Saturday. For the week, he had four shots on goal and three blocks at the defensive end of the ice.

CCHA Defenseman of the Week: Evan Murr, Fr., Minnesota State (Stillwater, Minn.) 

Murr paced CCHA blueliners with three points last week, collecting three assists in a tie and a win at Augustana. He was +2 for the weekend, with six shots on goal and one block defensively. On Friday, he set up the Mavericks’ second goal of the night in a 3-3 draw. He then dished out assists on both Minnesota State tallies in a 2-1 victory on Saturday.

CCHA Goaltender of the Week: Keenan Rancier, Jr., Minnesota State (Victoria, B.C.)

Rancier went 1-0-0 with league-bests in goals-against average (1.00) and save percentage (.963), helping Minnesota State to a 2-1 victory at Augustana on Saturday. He stopped a total of 26 shots on the night, including 12-of-13 while the Mavericks were shorthanded, helping the team to a 4-for-5 penalty kill. Half of his saves came in the second period as he went 13-for-13 in the frame.

CCHA Rookie of the Week: Luigi Benincasa, Fr., Ferris State (Edmonton, Alb.)

Benincasa recorded a CCHA-best four points on a goal and three assists last week, helping the Bulldogs to a home split with first place Bemidji State. Posting a +3 rating for the weekend, he assisted on the Bulldogs’ only goal in a 4-1 loss to the Beavers on Friday, before scoring a goal with three helpers in a 5-3 Ferris State victory on Saturday. For the week, he totaled eight shots on goal and won 18 face-offs.
