Weekend Preview: Cream of the Crop

First place is on the line this weekend, when Minnesota State and St. Thomas square off in a home-and-home series beginning on Friday in Mendota Heights. Not to be outdone, Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan battle in a home-and-home of their own, opening in Marquette. Bowling Green heads to Ferris State to for a pair, while Augustana visits Bemidji State.

After splitting the previous meetings this year, Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan wrap up their season series, starting on Friday in Marquette. The Huskies own an 82-80-14 lead all-time, including a 43-34-8 mark at home. The Wildcats did claim a 7-2 exhibition win in early January and look the close the gap in the league standings. Tech sits just four points out of first entering Friday's action.

The Tommies pulled out a come-from-behind win in the most recent meeting to salvage a weekend split earlier this season. Minnesota State took four points last weekend while St. Thomas was idle to draw even in the conference standings at 30 points apiece. The Mavericks own a 26-11-2 lead all-time in the series and have taken 4-of-6 dating back to last season. This weekend's action opens in Mendota Heights, before the play turns to Mankato on Saturday night.

Winners of four straight, Ferris State hosts Bowling Green for a pair this weekend. The Bulldogs lead the all-time series, 81-66-14, but the Falcons did come away with a home sweep in December, winning 1-0 and 4-3. BGSU split against Minnesota State its last time out, while Ferris State saw Stepan Pokorny score five goals in a road weekend sweep of Augustana last weekend.
