Six Earn All-CCHA Second Team

The Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) announced the All-CCHA Second Team and six student-athletes from five different programs have been recognized. Isaac Gordon (Michigan Tech), Connor Milburn (Lake Superior State) and Lucas Wahlin (St. Thomas) made up the forwards, Evan Murr (Minnesota State) and Josh Zinger (Northern Michigan) were the defensemen and Blake Pietila (Michigan Tech) earned goaltending honors.

All-CCHA Second Team Forward: Isaac Gordon, Fr., Michigan Tech (Landmark, Man.) 
 
Gordon was second among all CCHA skaters in goals (11) during conference play, pacing league rookies in points (20) and plus-minus (+10) and finishing second in shots (66). Fifth overall in plus-minus, he was third on Michigan Tech with nine assists, including two helpers on the power play. Notching three multi-point games, he had two five-game point streaks during the conference season and tallied one game-winning goal. 

All-CCHA Second Team Forward: Connor Milburn, So., Lake Superior State (Kamloops, B.C.) 
 
Milburn led the Lakers in assists (15), points (24) and face-off wins (210) during CCHA play this season, winning 47.6% of his draws and blocking 13 shots at the defensive end. Adding nine goals, including two game-winners, he was third in plus-minus (+6) and shots (57). The league leader in points, he was second in assists and multi-point games (7) and fourth in face-off wins. 

All-CCHA Second Team Forward: Lucas Wahlin, So., St. Thomas (Woodbury, Minn.) 
 
Wahlin was seventh in the CCHA in points (20), scoring eight goals and dishing out 12 assists in 24 league games. Second in the league in shots (86) and shots per game (3.6), he recorded two power play goals, one shorthanded tally and one game-winner during conference play. Posting a plus-minus of +6, his five-point game (1 goal, 4 assists) at Ferris State on December 2 – a 7-1 Tommies victory – was the most by a CCHA player in a single game this season. 
 
All-CCHA Second Team Defenseman: Evan Murr, Fr., Minnesota State (Stillwater, Minn.) 
 
Murr led all CCHA defensemen with 18 points during conference play this season, finishing fifth among all skaters with 13 assists and five multi-point games. Adding five goals, including one game-winner, he totaled eight points (2 goals, 6 assists) while the Mavericks were on the power play and blocked 16 shots at the defensive end. His 50 shots on goal were good for fifth on Minnesota State and he ended conference play with an even plus-minus. He began his CCHA career with points in four consecutive league games. 
 
All-CCHA Second Team Defenseman: Josh Zinger, So., Northern Michigan (Red Deer, Alb.) 
 
Zinger scored three goals and added nine assists for 12 points in 24 CCHA games this season. Posting a -2 plus-minus, he recorded 42 shots on goal and 10 blocks at the defensive end of the ice. He led Northern Michigan defensemen in goals, assists and points and had one game-winning tally. In back-to-back games in November and December, he notched four points (1 goal, 3 assists) and was twice named CCHA Defenseman of the Week.


All-CCHA Second Team Goaltender: Blake Pietila, Sr., Michigan Tech (Howell, Mich.)

Pietila went 12-9-2 with a 2.05 goals-against average and a .925 save percentage, leading the league in conference wins, games played (23), shutouts (3) and total saves (578). He finished third in goals-against average and save percentage, helping the Huskies to three shootout victories and a place in the Mason Cup Semifinals. Twice named CCHA Goaltender of the Month (December & February), he has three Goaltender of the Week awards this season.

Voting for the 2023-24 All-CCHA Teams and year-end awards was conducted by the eight head coaches at each CCHA member institution, based on CCHA conference games only. Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own players.

The league's year-end award announcements continue later today with the All-CCHA First Team (2pm ET). 

The 2024 Mason Cup Playoffs resume this Saturday, with fourth-seeded Minnesota State traveling to third-seeded Michigan Tech (5:07pm ET) and top-seeded Bemidji State hosting seventh-seeded Lake Superior State (7:07pm CT) in the conference Semifinals.
