Weekend Preview: Semifinal Rumble

The Mason Cup Semifinals are set for Saturday, with top-seed Bemidji State hosting seventh-seed Lake Superior State in the nightcap (7:07pm CT), following third-seed Michigan Tech taking on fourth-seed Minnesota State in Houghton (5:07pm ET).

The third-seeded Huskies, who are hosting a conference semifinal for the third straight season, welcome fourth-seeded Minnesota State to town for a 5:07pm ET puck drop on Saturday. Both teams swept their Mason Cup Quarterfinal series at home, with Tech topping Bowling Green (5-0 and 6-5) and the Mavericks downing Northern Michigan (2-1 and 6-1). MSU owns a narrow 21-19-7 edge in the all-time series at MacInnes Student Ice Arena, but Tech won the regular season series, 3-1, including a split on February 9 and 10 in Houghton.

The MacNaughton Cup Champion Beavers host seventh-seed Lake Superior State on Saturday night in a Mason Cup Semifinal (7:07pm CT). The Lakers edged out St. Thomas in Game 3 of their quarterfinal series, 3-2, while Bemidji State needed overtime in Game 1 against Ferris State, but wound up sweeping the Bulldogs in two. Lake Superior State took 3-of-4 regular season meetings, with one win coming in overtime, but the two teams have not met since early December. BSU's 10-game unbeaten streak (9-0-1) is the longest in NCAA Division I hockey.Â
