CCHA Players of the Week: March 1-2

The Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) has announced its Players of the Week for the games on March 1-2 and four student-athletes from three different programs have been recognized. Jackson Jutting (Bemidji State) and Mitch Wolfe (Bemidji State) were named Forward and Defenseman of the Week, respectively, while Beni Halasz (Northern Michigan) was the Goaltender of the Week for the third time this year. Branden Piku (Lake Superior State) collected Rookie of the Week honors.

CCHA Forward of the Week: Jackson Jutting, Sr., Bemidji State (Savage, Minn.) 

 
Jutting led all CCHA skaters with four points on two goals an two assists last week, leading the Beavers to their second-ever MacNaughton Cup title with a sweep of Minnesota State. Scoring one game-winning goal, he was a +3 with four shots on goal and two blocks at the defensive end of the ice. On Friday, he recorded a season-best four points, scoring twice and picking up two helpers in a 6-0 Bemidji State victory. The win locked up the regular season championship.

CCHA Defenseman of the Week: Mitch Wolfe, So., Bemidji State (Andover, Minn.) 
 
Wolfe paced all conference blueliners with three points last weekend, including scoring his first collegiate goal and contributing two assists. His plus-minus of +6 was tops among all CCHA skaters and he notched two shots and two blocks. On Friday, he assisted on the final goal in Bemidji State’s 6-0 – MacNaughton Cup-clinching – victory over Minnesota State. He then potted the game-winning goal in a 2-0 triumph in the regular season finale on Saturday.

CCHA Goaltender of the Week: Beni Halasz, So., Northern Michigan (Budapest, Hungary) 
 
Halasz went 2-0-0 with league-bests in goals-against average (0.50) and save percentage (.979), helping the Wildcats to a sweep of Bowling Green last weekend. Stopping 47-of-48 shots in the series, he earned his second shutout of the year and fifth of his career on Saturday, making 20 saves in a 1-0 victory. 
 
CCHA Rookie of the Week: Branden Piku, Fr., Lake Superior State (Harrison Township, Mich.) 
 
Piku recorded his first collegiate two-goal game on Friday night, including the game-winner, helping the Lakers to a 4-1 victory over Ferris State in their regular-season finale. Posting a +2 in the contest with a team-high five shots on goal, he broke a 1-1 tie five minutes into the second period and added a second 10 minutes later to give Lake Superior State a 3-1 lead.
