The National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) released its 2022-23 Academic Progress Rates (APR) and all eight Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) institutions recorded at least a score of 945. Bowling Green State University led the way with a perfect 1000.
As a conference, the CCHA produced an average APR of 975 during the 2022-23 season, which was up from the 966.5 that the conference tallied in 2021-22. The Falcons are the only team to reach 1000 during both campaigns, while the University of St. Thomas was the biggest gainer, climbing 56 points from year-to-year.
Implemented in 2003 as part of an ambitious academic reform effort in Division I, the Academic Progress Rate (APR) holds institutions accountable for the academic progress of their student-athletes through a team-based metric that accounts for the eligibility and retention of each student-athlete for each academic term.
The APR system includes rewards for superior academic performance and penalties for teams that do not achieve certain academic benchmarks. Data are collected annually, and results are announced in the spring.
