Evan Murr Receives National Monthly Honor

Minnesota State junior Evan Murr has been named the Hockey Commissioners’ Association’s Men’s Co-National Defender of the Month for November, it was announced on Thursday. He is the first CCHA student-athlete to garner such an honor this season.

Murr (Chicago, Ill.) led the nation in assists (8), points (11) and plus-minus (+12) by a defenseman in November, scoring three goals, including one game-winner. Averaging 22:41 minutes per game, he helped the No. 13 Mavericks to a 6-1-2 record, including a six-game winning streak to close out the month. He had 25 shots on goal and blocked seven defensively. Highlighting his month were a pair of three-assist contests, leading Minnesota State to road victories over Lake Superior State and Northern Michigan.

For the season, Murr has six goals and 10 assists for 16 points in 16 games. He is a +13 and has tallied one power-play goal and two game-winners, with 48 shots on goal and nine blocks defensively. Averaging 22:37 minutes per contest, he ranks fourth nationally in goals and points, while sitting sixth in assists and seventh in shots.

Will Horcoff (Michigan) was selected HCA Men’s National Forward of the Month for November, while Emmett Croteau (Dartmouth) was the Goaltender of the Month and Ethan Wyttenbach (Quinnpiac) was the Rookie of the Month. Murr was joined by Chris Hedden (Air Force) and Eric Pohlkamp (Denver) as Co-Defenders of the Month.

The CCHA saw four student-athletes collect six month award from the Hockey Commissioners Association last year, including three by Mavericks netminder Alex Tracy.
