Weekend Preview: Semifinal Saturday

The 2025 Mason Cup Semifinals are upon us as top-seed Minnesota State hosts seventh-seed Bemidji State on Saturday night, following third-seed St. Thomas welcoming fourth-seed Bowling Green to town. The winner of each game will meet in the Mason Cup Championship Game next Saturday at the highest remaining seed.

If St. Thomas advances to the title game, the winner of Minnesota State-Bemidji State will earn the CCHA's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament, as the Tommies are not eligible until 2026.

The Falcons head to Mendota Heights to face St. Thomas in the Mason Cup Semifinals on Saturday afternoon with a place in the league's championship game on the line. The Tommies took the regular season series, 2-1-1, including a split in Bowling Green in early February. Saturday's game features four All-CCHA forwards, including two from each team. The Tommies boast First Teamers and Forward of the Year Finalists Liam Malmquist and Lucas Wahlin, while Bowling Green saw Ryan O'Hara and Brody Waters make the second team.

In-state rivals Bemidji State and Minnesota State battle at the Mayo in the Mason Cup Semifinals on Saturday night. The Mavericks swept their Quarterfinal series with Lake Superior State at home last weekend, while the Beavers took three games to upset Augustana on the road. Minnesota State owns a 69-64-17 lead in the all-time series, including a 2-1 overtime victory in the 2022 Mason Cup Championship Game in Mankato.
