Tracy Selected Hobey Baker Top 10 Finalist

Minnesota State men's hockey junior goaltender Alex Tracy has been named a 2025 Hobey Baker Memorial Award Top Ten Finalist. The Hobey Baker is annually bestowed upon the top player in men's college hockey. He is the second Maverick in successive seasons to be included as a Top-10 Finalist, after Sam Morton earned the honor in 2023-24.

Tracy (Chicago, Ill.) is 25-8-3 with a 1.41 goals-against average and a .946 save percentage, with five shutouts. The CCHA Goaltender and Player of the Year, he was a two-time CCHA and National Goaltender of the Month and currently leads the nation in GAA and SV%. He was one of three finalists for CCHA Goaltender of the Year and a contender for the Hobey Baker Award, given annually to the top player in collegiate men's hockey.

Playing in 25 of Minnesota State’s 26 conference games, Tracy went 17-5-3 with a 1.43 goals-against average and a .947 save percentage, which all led the league. A top-four finalist for the Mike Richter Award, he turned away 640 shots in 1514:48 minutes, picking up two shutouts.
 
The field will be narrowed from ten to three on April 3 (Hobey Hat Trick Finalists), followed by the Hobey Baker Award announcement on April 11.
 
Tracy's phenomenal season for the Mavericks continued on Saturday, when he made 27 saves for his fifth shutout of the year over Bemidji State in the CCHA Mason Cup semifinals. Named CCHA Player of the Year on March 14, Tracy played in 25 of 26 conference games, going 17-5-3 with a 1.43 goals against average and .947 save percentage.

Award criteria include candidates exhibiting the exceptional character traits of the award's namesake, Hobey Baker. A legendary American hero, Baker was a World War I fighter pilot and was known as America's greatest amateur athlete in his day, excelling at hockey and football at Princeton University. Award candidates must demonstrate strength of character both on and off the ice, contribute to the integrity of his team and display outstanding skills in all phases of the game. Consideration should be given to scholastic achievement and sportsmanship.
 
Community Service: Tracy is a three-year member of SAAC, for which he has helped produce videos for mental health awareness as well as the Slam Don't Drive Drunk campaign. He assists with the school's All-Sports Camps and Trick or Treat with the Mavericks each year. Helping with the Kiwanis Holiday light event helping to set up display and the Anthony Ford Pond Hockey tournament, he also assists with the YMCA corn roast to raise funds for food pantries, helping at Futures School and works as a guest coach at the Miracle League for six weeks in the Fall.

Along with his teammates, Tracy has spent the past two years working with the Adaptive Floor Hockey team for the Mankato High Schools, practicing with this group at least one a week and attending as many games as their schedule allows, including a road trip to support the team in tournament play.

Tracy coaches aspiring goaltenders at clinics and works in the Athlete-to-Athlete program mentoring three young athletes. He organizes the team Bible Study, participates in "I am Second" group designed to spread the gospel on campus, and leads devotional for Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). He organizes the groups pickleball games and works at a local church on Wednesday evenings with the AWANA program.
