LAS ANGELES, Calif. - The Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) saw future student-athlete Maxon Vig selected on Day 2 of the 2025 National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft on Saturday. The former Cedar Rapids Roughriders defenseman, who was take in the seventh round (209th overall) by the Montreal Canadiens, is scheduled to join Bemidji State University for the 2025-26 season.
Vig, a leff-handed shot blueliner from Bismark, N.D., played in 62 games for for Cedar Rapids of the USHL (United States Hockey League) during the 2024-25 season, scoring 10 goals and dishing out 22 assists for 32 points. A plus-9 during the regular season, he played in three playoff games for the RoughRiders.
The lone player with CCHA ties selected in this year's NHL Entry Draft, Vig will join a Bemidji State team that went 15-18-5 overall a season ago, including a 10-12-4 mark in conference play.
