Weekend Preview: Start Your Engines

All eight CCHA teams hit the ice this weekend across 13 games, including three exhibition matchups. No. 18/20 Michigan Tech welcomes No. 14/18 Minnesota to town for two, while Bowling Green battles No. 2/2 Michigan in a home-and-home series that opens in Ann Arbor on Friday night. Ferris State heads to Canisius for two, Northern Michigan hosts Miami (OH) for a pair and Bemidji State hosts St. Cloud State for a single contest on Saturday night.

In exhibition action, No. 17/18 Minnesota State welcomes the University of Manitoba to town for a Friday matinee, while Augustana heads to No. 4/4 North Dakota on Saturday. Lake Superior State opens up with a pair at the University of Windsor on Friday and Saturday.

Ferris State gets their season underway in Buffalo, N.Y., with a two-game set against Canisius. Friday's season-opener will be the ninth ever meeting between the two programs, with the teams splitting the first eight meetings, 4-4-0. Golden Griffins head coach Trevor Large is a Ferris State alum, having played for longtime Bulldogs head coach Bob Daniels.

The Lakers open 2026-27 with two exhibitions at the University of Windsor on Friday night and Saturday afternoon. Lake Superior State begins regular season play next weekend at Lindenwood.

Bowling Green takes on nationally second-ranked Michigan in a home-and-home series, which opens at Yost Ice Arena on Friday night. The series turns to Slater Family Ice Arena on Saturday night. The former CCHA foes will meet for the 123rd and 124th time, with the Wolvarines owning an 82-27-3 lead all-time. Bowling Green has won the previous two matchups in 2018 and 2013.

The Wildcats get 2026-27 underway with a home series against Miami (OH) this weekend at Berry Events Center. Northern Michigan owns a 35-21-5 lead in the all-time series, including a 22-7-2 mark at home. The RedHawks haven't won in Marquette since October of 2009.

No. 19/20 Michigan Tech welcomes No. 14/18 Minnesota to MacInnes Student Ice Arena on Friday and Saturday night to open the 2026-27 season. The Gophers are 176-78-15 all-time against the Huskies, dating back to 1922. Tech is 47-71-11 at home in the series. Last year, the Huskies traveled to 3M Arena at Mariucci and earned a split, winning 5-2 on Saturday dropping the seson opener, 6-3.
