Meerman Named National Forward of the Month

Augustana junior Brett Meerman has been named the Hockey Commissioners’ Association’s Men’s Co-National Forward of the Month for December, it was announced on Thursday. He is the second CCHA student-athlete to garner such an honor this season, joining Minnesota State's Evan Murr, who was the Defenseman of the Month in November.

Meerman (Blackfalds, Alta.) led all CCHA skaters in goals (5) and points (9) in December, helping Augustana to a 3-1-2 record. He also had league-bests in shooting percentage (41.7%) and power-play goals (3), while finishing second in plus-minus (+5). Notching 12 shots on goal, he had one game-winning goal and blocked three shots defensively. His month was highlighted by three straight games with multiple points, including a three-point showing (2 goals, 1 assist) in a 7-4 victory over Omaha on December 19.

For the season, Meerman has seven goals and 10 assists for 17 points in 20 games for No. 17/18 Augustana. Posting a +5, he has five power-play goals and two game-winners, registering 30 shots on goal and six blocks defensively.

Meerman is joined by Justin Poirier (Maine) as HCA Men’s National Co-Forward of the Month, while Jake Livanavage (North Dakota) was the Defenseman of the Month, Jack Ivankovic (Michigan) Goaltender of the Month and Anthony Romani (Michigan State) was the Rookie of the Month.

The CCHA saw four student-athletes collect six month award from the Hockey Commissioners Association last year, including three by Mavericks netminder Alex Tracy.
