General 1/10/2022 2:26:58 PM CCHA Players of the Week: Jan. 7-8 The CCHA is proud to recognize four student-athletes and its Players of the Week for the games of Jan. 7-8. Bemidji State's goaltender Mattias Sholl (Rookie), Minnesota State's Nathan Smith (Forward) & Dryden McKay (Goaltender) and Northern Michigan's Trevor Cosgrove (Defenseman) took home this week’s honors. Follow the CCHA: Instagram | Twitter  CCHA Forward of the Week: Nathan Smith, Jr., Minnesota State (Hudson, Fla.) Minnesota State junior forward Nathan Smith tallied six points on two goals and four assists as the No. 1-ranked Mavericks earned a two-game home league sweep over Ferris State. Smith had a goal and two assists in Friday's 7-1 win and a goal and two assists in Saturday's 7-0 victory. He was plus-four on the weekend and won 25 of 32 face-offs (.781). Smith now leads the nation in scoring with 33 points (13G, 20A) in 22 games played.  CCHA Defenseman of the Week: Trevor Cosgrove, Sr., Northern Michigan (Exeter, NH) Northern Michigan senior defenseman Trevor Cosgrove recorded four points (3G, 1A) in the weekend non-conference sweep against his former team, Colgate Raiders. He led the team in shots both nights, combining for 13 shots on net over the two game stretch. Cosgrove boasted a team-high plus-3 on-ice rating in Friday’s 4-2 win. He set a career-high in points Friday night with two goals and an assist. Cosgrove also registered two blocked shots in Friday night’s win over Colgate and was named first star of the game Friday before picking up third star honors on Saturday.  CCHA Goaltender of the Week: Dryden McKay, Sr., Minnesota State (Downers Grove, Ill.) Minnesota State senior goaltender Dryden McKay recorded two wins, one shutout, a .971 save percentage (SAV%) and a 0.50 goals against average (GAA) in the weekend sweep over Ferris State. McKay Stopped 33 of 34 shots on the weekend and turned aside all 17 shots in Saturday's 7-0 win over the Bulldogs for eighth shutout of the season, extendeding his NCAA Division I men's hockey shutout record with 32. McKay leads the country in wins with 20 (stands 20-3-0 on the season), ranks second in the nation with a 1.18 goals against average and is fifth in save percentage (.935).  CCHA Rookie of the Week: Mattias Sholl, Fr., Bemidji State (Hermosa Beach, Calif.) Bemidji State freshman goaltender Mattias Sholl recorded two wins on the weekend, a .961 save percentage (SAV%) and a 1.00 goals against average (GAA) in a home sweep of Lake Superior State. He stopped 49-of-51 shots on the weekend starting with 28-of-29 shots in Friday's 5-1 victory followed by 21-of-22 saves in game two.
