Weekend Preview: Rivalry Renewed

No. 13 Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan highlight a full weekend of CCHA action with a home-and-home series that opens on Friday in Houghton. No. 14 Minnesota State heads to Ferris State for two after the Bulldogs swept the Mavericks in Mankato earlier in the season. Lake Superior State hosts Bemidji State, St. Thomas heads to the desert to face Arizona State in its final non-league action, while Bowling Green steps away for an exhibition contest against The U.S. National Team Development Program on Friday.

One of the biggest rivalries in college hockey gets underway on Friday night at "The Mac" with No. 13 Michigan Tech hosting Northern Michigan. The two teams split a home-and-home series back in early December. Overall, the series could not get much tighter, with Tech holding a 79-78-14 edge entering the weekend.

The Mavericks look to stay hot with a road series to Big Rapids, Michigan, this weekend, while the Bulldogs look to stay in the hunt for home ice in the Mason Cup Playoffs. Ferris State swept No. 14 Minnesota State in Mankato back in early December, but the Mavs still hold a 32-11-2 advantage all-time.

Lake Superior State welcomes the Beavers to Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, for a two-game series this weekend. The Lakers were able to take two points in Bemidji earlier in the year thanks to an overtime win and are looking to build momentum heading into the postseason. The Beavers are sitting three points clear for a top-4 spot currently, with hopes of a MacNaughton Cup run still in reach.
