Weekend Preview: Getting Even

Eight of the nine CCHA teams are in action this weekend and when the dust settles on Saturday night, every team will have played 18 conference games. No. 14 Augustana visits No. 20 Minnesota State in a single game on Saturday, while No. 16 St. Thomas visits Lake Superior State, Bowling Green heads to Bemidji State and No. 19 Michigan Tech plays a home-and-home series with rival Northern Michigan.

The Wildcats and No. 19 Huskies renew their Upper Peninsula rivalry this weekend with a home-and-home series, which opens in Marquette on Friday night. The matchup turns to Houghton on Saturday. Tech has pushes its lead in the all-time series to 89-81-15, which dates back to 1979, with a sweep of NMU earlier this season by scores of 4-1 and 4-2.

The No. 16 Tommies head to Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario and Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan for a international series with Lake Superior State this weekend. St. Thomas has won eight straight games to climb into the first place in the CCHA standings, while the Lakers are coming off a split at Bowling Green last weekend and currently sit 10 points out of the fourth and final home ice position.

A battle of ranked teams takes place on Saturday in Mankato between the No. 20 Mavericks and No. 14 Augustana. The one-game weekend for both teams comes after the Vikings came away with 5-of-6 points at Midco Arena in the previous meeting back in mid-December. Minnesota State owns a 3-1-2 lead in the all-time series.

In a series that will go a long way into determing the opening round playoff position of the two teams, Bowling Green heads to Bemidji State for a two-game set. The Falcons, who are currently in the fourth and final home ice spot, are five point ahead of the Beavers with 10 regular season games to play.
